DRS or Lottery?
Over 17.1 in the Sri Lankan batting innings in their game against Pakistan on 27th October gave us a very surprising moment
Naseem Shah was the bowler and the batter on strike was Pavan Rathnayake. It was a full ball and the batter had driven the ball down to mid on.
In that moment against all odds the Pakistan captain, Shaheen Shah Afridi, took a review. The replays showed the ball had pinged right of the middle of the bat. What was the purpose of the review? To slow the game or to check where exactly on the bat the ball hit.
This got me thinking if reviews are being just because they are there or is it to eliminate the clear and obvious error.
In the last game between Pakistan and England we saw Shadab Khan use a review and finding out that there was an inside edge. He had given up all hope and had made his mind up that he was gone. As someone who has played a bit of cricket I am not sure as to how he didnt realize there was an inside edge.
Should DRS be used in hope or to eliminate obvious errors.
If the batter has no confidence that he has edged should Snicko be used to overturn the decision from out to not out.
For a bowler the decision is given only if he appeals but for a batter he gets the benefit even if he has no idea if he has hit the ball.
It is indeed a batters game these days.
